B&S Writers Award

The first in a semiannual GM (gay male) B&S Writers Award contest is in season—the theme is first times (in keeping with it being the first B&S competition). There is a 3,000-word limit, and stories must have been published on the Internet in 2009.

Stories will be judged by the combined scoring of a professional novelist/bookeditor (habu) and Internet erotica e-book reviewer (Sabb) on writing and content quality. This is not a popular vote contest—and entry is free. The first fifty entries only will be accepted. A notice will be placed on the site when/if this number is reached.

The top three winning entries (assuming three were judged award worthy) will receive published reviews on our Web site www.barbarianspy.com, with links to where the story has been originally Web-published.

Entries can be sent any time from now until 1 June 2009, and the winners will be announced and reviews posted by the end of June 2009.

This is a judged contest, being adjudicated by the combined scores of a professional novelist/book editor and a GM book publisher, on the basis of the comparative quality of the work. The works will be judged (and reviewed) on adherence to and clever/unusual use of theme, plot, characterization, writing quality, completeness as a story, overall effect and also presentation.

All entries will be acknowledged and informed of what third of the field they finished in. (Judging will be on a rating system and adding up the numbers will give each story a ranking.) The top ten will receive private comment from the judges.

All entries are to be e-mailed by the author to bsfirsttimes@barbarianspy.com. Entries must be in English, any version, and pasted into the body of the e-mail—NO attachments please—and a link to where the story has been published must also be provided. Stories are to be no more than 3,000 words in length and must be a complete stand-alone story, not a chapter or section of a larger work. No underage characters allowed, and all stories must relate in some way to first times.
